Why Doula?

I have thought about this for a while now. I was not very knowledgeable about what a doula was, what they offered, what the benefits of having one were, when my son was born. There are a lot of things I would change about the birth of my son, if I could. There are also a lot of things I would change about our postpartum experience. As I slowly navigated through my regrets, my emotions, my postpartum depression & anxiety, I stumbled upon a lot of supportive information from the brith world; including the role of a doula.

I became inspired, maybe even a little obsessed. I was doing research whenever I had the opportunity (ie when why son was napping). I was constantly watching birth videos – unmedicated, epidural, surgical – I did not care, I wanted to witness. I would watch powerful people bringing their babies earth side with the most amazing team of support by their side; talking them through, motivating them, helping with pain management, whatever it takes.

The more I watched, the more passionate I became about wanting to provide birthing people & new parents the support that they deserve. The support that I wish I had. I could not shake that feeling. So now I am doing something about it.
